Everyday Micro-ethics

This project is a re-contextualisation of Stacy Thompson’s work ‘The Micro-ethics of everyday life: ethics, ideology and anti-consumerism’.

Thompson’s essay explores the idea that greenwashed corporations are more interested in forcing consumers to engage in minor (meaningless) actions of “eco-activism” to make consumers feel good about themselves, acting as a distraction for “macro forms of ethical action.”

This project is an A3 newspaper-style publication featuring type that was manipulated to emphasise a changing sense of scale, reflecting the bombardment of decisions consumers are faced with, and also highlighting the physical size of the spreads. Type was not only scaled up and down but also rotated, to create a sense of disorientation.

This project was featured on Swinburne University’s GradX Instagram page in 2022, and can be viewed here.
